Knife Skills Workshop

Knife Skills Workshop

My Knife Skills Workshop is where your time in the kitchen starts to feel calmer, safer, and far more efficient. Instead of wrestling with dull blades and awkward cuts, you learn exactly how to hold, move, and care for your knives so they do the work for you.

I begin by teaching proper grip and stance, then move into essential cuts you will use every day: chop, dice, mince, julienne, and bias slices. You practice on real ingredients, not plastic stand-ins, so you see immediately how consistent knife work improves the way vegetables cook and how dishes look on the plate. Along the way, I correct hand placement and motion to reduce fatigue and greatly lower the risk of accidents.

Sharpening and maintenance are a core part of the workshop. I walk you through how to assess sharpness, use a honing steel correctly, and understand when and how to sharpen at home or with a professional. Caring for your knives means they last longer, perform better, and keep you from forcing cuts that can lead to injury.

I also cover how to match the right knife to the right job: chef's knife versus paring knife, serrated blades, and specialty shapes you may already own but rarely reach for. By the end of class, you will be cutting faster with more accuracy and far less mess on the board.

The biggest benefit is confidence. When you trust your hands and your tools, every recipe becomes more approachable. Tasks that once felt tedious - like chopping onions or breaking down a melon - turn into quick, repeatable steps that set you up for better cooking across the board.
